Sunnyside was the home of Washington Irving, whose Sketch Book popularized The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. The picturesque house and grounds are a Historic Hudson Valley museum site a short drive from Sleepy Hollow's church and cemetery. Tours interpret Irving's life and literary career; seasonal events in the Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow corridor often point visitors here as the author's home base for the Headless Horseman legend.
