About

Memorial at the historically identified site where nineteen people convicted in the Salem witch trials were hanged in 1692.

History & lore

In 2016 the City of Salem dedicated a memorial at Proctor's Ledge after researchers identified it as the likely execution site for nineteen hangings during the witch trials (Giles Corey was pressed to death elsewhere). The low stone memorial is an outdoor public site intended for quiet reflection amid Salem's heavier commercial Halloween scene.
