About

Private Long Island residence tied to the 1974 DeFeo murders and the subsequent Lutz haunting claims popularized by The Amityville Horror book and films. Not open to the public.

History & lore

In November 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six family members at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville. In 1975 George and Kathy Lutz briefly occupied the house and later claimed intense paranormal experiences; their account became Jay Anson's 1977 book The Amityville Horror and a long film franchise. Historians and investigators have disputed many paranormal claims, while the murders themselves are documented criminal history. The address remains a private home. Visitors should not trespass, photograph residents, or treat the property as a tourist attraction. Nearby Long Island seasonal haunts and public waterfront towns offer Halloween entertainment without invading a private residence.
